✔ When a water leak occurs it is important to act fast. If the damp material or area is dried out within the first 24 to 48 hours, typically mold will not grow. In the following days check the area regularly to ensure there is no mold.
✔ Clean and repair gutters on a regular basis as mold can being to grow and spread into the home.
✔ Ensure that the ground outside your home slopes away from the foundation so that water does not collect or enter the foundation.
✔ Keep the air conditioning drip pans clean. Also ensure that the drain lines are not obstructed and are flowing properly.
✔ Try to keep the indoor humidity low, below 60% but ideally somewhere between 30% and 50% relative humidity. An inexpensive moisture or humidity meter can be found at your local hardware store.
✔ If you notice condensation or moisture collecting on windows, walls or pipes, it is imperative to act quickly to dry the affected area and find the source of the increased humidity. Condensation can be a sign of high humidity.
